Should You Have a Themed Photo Session | North Oaks, Minnesota Child & Family Photographer

You have probably seen many photos that were taken at a themed photo session. Your friends’ kids got their latest pictures taken in matching Western outfits. Your aunt had a movie theme for her wedding pictures. There are countless theme ideas you can use to make your photos interesting, unique, and a reflection of your personality.

If you are considering a themed photo session, answer the following questions discover your ideal theme:

Is this photo session indoors or outdoors? If it’s outdoors you’ll probably want to consider a theme that suits the current weather.

What season is it? If you are looking to use a specific backdrop or seasonal prop, use Mother Nature’s current display as your theme.

Do you love a specific historical era, such as the 50’s? Or a particular TV series like Star Trek? There are so many eras and movies that you can draw inspiration from. Make a list of shows, movies & eras that you and your family love.

Do you have specific hobbies? Perhaps you are an animal lover, a sports fan or have a passion for fashion. Make a list of your interests and your theme might just jump out at you.

Is this a major life event? Use your pregnancy announcement or your wedding as the perfect excuse for a fun photo session.  Is your baby turning one?  Use a setting and props that speak to both you and family’s interests. There is also tons of inspiration on websites such as Pinterest that you can turn to for ideas

Whatever theme you decide to choose, make sure that it speaks to your personalities so that you genuinely enjoy the process. Themed photo sessions are also usually a great way to encourage children to be involved and to get them excited.

The mQn Photography Studio Space | North East Minneapolis Studio Photographer

I am so excited to announce my leap into renting a shared studio space in Northeast Minneapolis.  It’s such a beautiful space.

This month I’m participating in a blog circle with a few photographer friends from all over the globe!  At the end of this post, be sure to click my friend Hali’s link to follow the circle around.  Hali is from Rochester, NY.   You’ll get a glimpse of her getting in the frame on her blog.  It’s so important for us photographers to get in the frame too!  Which is way you’ll see me below too in my new studio space . . .

If you are on Instagram then you may have already heard but I wanted to officially put it on the blog.   It’s the perfect space for families, newborns, babies or older children.  It’s just the perfect amount of vintage/rustic I love and also a great space for cake smashes and all kinds of other ideas I have brewing in my mind.

And if the actual studio space wasn’t enough there are lots of common areas to access too which is great for older kids and seniors!

I’m really hoping to be able to utilize the space most of winter when it’s just too cold to go outside and all other times in the year when a client’s home just isn’t what they want.  I will still be offering my services for outdoor/indoor on location sessions as well as in-home lifestyle and fresh 48 and NICU sessions at the hospitals. But for all the other times you can come see me here.

In the Garden with the Extended Ferzoco Family | Como Park Conservatory Photo Session With North Oaks Photographer

With the winter chill in the air it’s hard to do a family session outside especially when you have two year old twins!  What’s a good solution when family is in town but the weather is less than ideal?  Inside the Como Park Conservatory, of course.  This location is such a beautiful place which changes every season.  Schedule the session before hours and the place is yours for a half hour.  It was a great option for this extended family session.  Enjoy!

Last Minute Snow Session Sneak Peek | North Oaks, Minnesota Child Photographer

We had such a blast with this very last minute snow session.  We weren’t even expecting snow and we woke up to a couple of inches and it was relatively “warm” out.  You know it wasn’t below freezing (well maybe by a degree or two)  It was the perfect morning to have it.  That’s the thing with snow sessions, they sort of have to be scheduled very last minute but if it works for you it usually works for me in the winter too.  I always have so much fun I don’t want it to end!  But the cold does get to us eventually.  In any event, can’t wait to share my favorites of these but until then, here is a sneak peek!
