Pumpkin Picking on Film | North Oaks, Minnesota Film Photographer

Yesterday I got some film scans back.  I’ve been using a 35mm Canon EOS 3 Film camera and sometimes a really old (from the 70’s) Canon A-1 Film camera.  I’ve just fallen in love with film again, I think I might actually start saving for a Contax medium format film camera because I’d really love to offer amazing film sessions for my clients.  Anyway I just wanted to share a personal time with my kids on film because you know I don’t share that much personal stuff on my blog, so here goes! These were all shot on Fuji 400h film on my 35mm EOS 3. Enjoy!

On the Trail with the Arnold’s Sneak Peeks | North Oaks, Minnesota Family Photographer

With cloudy skies on this day we had to race through our session to keep any remaining light we had.  The trails can get dark fast especially when there really is no sun shinning.  But we made it work and this family is full of pros.  We were lucky that the trails still had leaves and many were still changing.  Usually this time of year we lose a bunch of leaves by now.  But the color was lovely making our session perfect.  Cannot wait to go through all the images but until then, enjoy this little sneak peek . . .

Hill Farm Fun Family Sneak Peeks | North Oaks, Minnesota Family Photographer

You would never guess by looking at these images that just 2 hours before, it was storming!  I thought we were going to have to call it a re-schedule or at the very least a very gloomy session.  But by the time we met up the skies cleared and the ground was only a bit wet.

These twins had me on my toes the whole session.  I think 3, well ok & 2 year old’s too, are the hardest to photograph.  They don’t necessarily want to pose they want to keep busy and play.  Which is what I love about lifestyle sessions, they get to do that.  It’s definitely all about the family bonds and that’s ok because they are only this little once.  Enjoy their enthusiasm!

Centennial High School Senior Session | Twin Cities, Minnesota Senior Photographer

Well for this senior session we did not have the best weather but we didn’t let that stop us!  And it never rained too hard on us that we couldn’t keep shooting well except once but we just hid under a tree for a brief moment.  That’s the thing with fall, sometimes it’s hot or too cold or too windy or even just plain rainy.  But in-spite of all that fall is one of the most beautiful times of year.  Meet this senior who will be graduating from Centennial High School this year.  She spends her afternoons as a nanny but plans on college after high school.  Good things are in store for her and I can’t wait to see what her future holds.

Tips for Gorgeous Outdoor Photos | North Oaks, Minnesota Family Photographer

Being outdoors in the summer sun is a great setting for some fun photos of you and your loved ones. In order to get the best results from your session, there are a few things to consider before you step in front of your photographer’s lens.

1. Wear sunscreen. If you are going to be out in the sun for a long period of time, especially with children, sunscreen is a must. It can however also make your skin look quite shiny. If possible apply makeup that has built-in sunscreen otherwise apply some powered concealer to spots that look especially oil.

2. Bring along some tissues & concealer powder. Unless it’s a cool day, you’re probably going to sweat. Bring along some tissues for dabbing off the sweat and your concealer powder for touch ups.

3. There might be bugs. Photos in the woods can be romantic and beautiful but depending on the time of day and the area you’re in, it could mean swatting away flies and mosquitoes. A little bug repellent can make your photo session a lot more pleasant

4. Stay hydrated. Posing for pictures may not seem like hard work but in the hot sun, you don’t have to move around much to be affected by the heat. Make sure you bring lots of water and other hydrating beverages, and drink up often.

5. Apply makeup sparingly. You want that fresh, sun kissed look in your photos so don’t overdo your makeup application.

6. What you wear matters. Choose clothing that is comfortable and fits your body shape. Feel free to incorporate accessories such as a hat but don’t let it overwhelm the photo.

7. Choose your time of day. Since midday can be scorching, plan your shoot early in the morning or just before the sun sets to avoid looking hot and flustered in your photos.
