Should You Have a Themed Photo Session | North Oaks, Minnesota Child & Family Photographer

You have probably seen many photos that were taken at a themed photo session. Your friends’ kids got their latest pictures taken in matching Western outfits. Your aunt had a movie theme for her wedding pictures. There are countless theme ideas you can use to make your photos interesting, unique, and a reflection of your personality.

If you are considering a themed photo session, answer the following questions discover your ideal theme:

Is this photo session indoors or outdoors? If it’s outdoors you’ll probably want to consider a theme that suits the current weather.

What season is it? If you are looking to use a specific backdrop or seasonal prop, use Mother Nature’s current display as your theme.

Do you love a specific historical era, such as the 50’s? Or a particular TV series like Star Trek? There are so many eras and movies that you can draw inspiration from. Make a list of shows, movies & eras that you and your family love.

Do you have specific hobbies? Perhaps you are an animal lover, a sports fan or have a passion for fashion. Make a list of your interests and your theme might just jump out at you.

Is this a major life event? Use your pregnancy announcement or your wedding as the perfect excuse for a fun photo session.  Is your baby turning one?  Use a setting and props that speak to both you and family’s interests. There is also tons of inspiration on websites such as Pinterest that you can turn to for ideas

Whatever theme you decide to choose, make sure that it speaks to your personalities so that you genuinely enjoy the process. Themed photo sessions are also usually a great way to encourage children to be involved and to get them excited.

Michele is a lifestyle portrait photographer in North Oaks, Minnesota who also enjoys putting together fun themed sessions for kids and their families (and friends).  To book your next session with Michele or to inquire about a day of themed mini sessions with your friends e-mail or visit mQn Photography | Twin Cities Photographer

Spring Break on Film | Palm Beach, Florida Vacation Photographer

That’s right, on FILM!  When we went on spring break this year I brought along my film camera.  It’s a Canon EOS 3 which means I can use all my current fancy lenses on this camera body.  I love this 35mm camera.  I bought it used on EBAY and it has it’s faults but I’m learning its quirks and for $75 I can’t complain.   This year I’ve really been focusing on film again and I have to say it’s really renewed my love for photography.  I think I actually love my vacation photos from my film camera better than my digital camera who would have known?  Ok I’ll break these out by film stocks because I shot 6 rolls of film all different stocks.

Fuji 400H

Agfa Vista 200

Ektar 100

Lomography 400

Portra 400

And for some funky fun, I cross processed Provia 100.  On a couple I liked what happened but on most I didn’t (learned lesson) but I changed a couple to make them more tolerable.  Still some funky goodness on film.

So which film stock do you prefer?

Motta Kids Sneak Peek ~ North Oaks, Minnesota Child and Family Photographer

Last weekend I had the opportunity to photograph these great kids!  Well they aren’t so much kids anymore.  The eldest daughter is heading off to college (actually she may have just went) and I’m super sad to see her go because she was one of the best babysitters in our neighborhood!  My kids and all the kids love her!  But of course I wish her all the best.   And the other two are growing up too fast too!  STOP!  🙂  Anyway I think we had a super fun session besides the fact that we were eaten up by bugs and had to switch locations!  Seriously I had 17 mosquito bites on my booty!  And I promise I had pants ON! 🙂  Anyway here are the random images selected for the sneak peek.  Can’t wait to share my favorites on Facebook once I’ve finished up the session!  Stay tuned . . . .

Spring Break ~South Carolina Vacation Photographer (or so I wish)

This past spring break we headed out to Savannah Georgia and Hilton Head South Carolina and let me tell you. . . .  MOVE ME THERE NOW!  It was everything I thought it would be and more.  We were lucky to have some decent weather.  It wasn’t hot by any means and it rained one night but during the days it was in the high 60’s and 70’s and it felt warm!  Especially coming from 40 degree temps here in Minnesota.  We didn’t spend much time in Savannah so I actually hope to go back and explore more.  What a beautiful city.  Did you know that Savannah is the second best place to party on St. Patrick’s Day in the U.S.?  (Second to Boston)  I had no idea but we arrived just in time for the festivities.  We spent the other days in Hilton Head South Carolina and these are the images I’m going to share (I just can’t share them all)  I just love the beach.  I’m so much more of a beach girl than a lake girl.  Growing up in California will do that to you.  Anyway I’m going to stop rambling now and hopefully for those I see around I’ll tell you about the fun game the kids played called “beejengu” (pronounced BEE HENG GU)  Let’s just say it all started when one day we saw dolphins but the next day we saw something with a slightly different tail.  Enjoy!
