NICU to PICU | Minnesota Children’s Hospital NICU Photographer, Minneapolis Minnesota

I’m so excited to share another NICU session from the Minnesota Children’s Hospital.  I know I say this every time but I just love love love meeting these little fighters and photographing them.  I really feel honored to be welcomed into their lives for 30 minutes and then I get to go home and look at their precious little faces for at least a month while I edit them.  The only downside is I’m not allowed to snuggle buggle them.  I think I need one of those baby snugglers job.  I’d be really good at it.

In any event, take a look at this absolutely adorable baby!  This little guy has been in the hospital since he was born in October.  They spent a week in the NICU and he had his first heart surgery at 1 week old.   Soon after they were moved to CVCC.   Poor little peanut struggled to get off of his breathing tube so ended up having to get a trach because of his underdeveloped lungs.  When I visited they were now on the PICU. They have been in there for over 4 months and I’m so blessed to be able to take his pictures since he hadn’t had any yet.  Meet my newest TTFP NICU to PICU baby:

I got to see another one of the NICU babies I’ve photographed.  I just love when I get the opportunity to see these little ones again.  This little country girl is turning one on the best day ever to have a birthday!  (hint hint we share the same day!)  We held the session at my new studio location and my kids had to be there because they didn’t want to stay home alone (long story short dad had to go out of town).  Well for those who have had sessions with me you will know that my kids are NEVER with me BUT this might be changing for future sessions because let me tell you we went from this face:

to this face:

with just my rugrats playing peek-a-boo behind me.  She just ate them up.  So if they are going to be my little snake charmers I might have to make them work more often.  They work for chocolate so it’s a pretty good deal on my end.

This little one is just too precious for words so without further adieu here are a few more sneak peeks:

I’m not sure why I didn’t include more smiley ones because we certainly got them.  I guess I just love all her little curious looks too plus I can only pick so many for a sneak peek!  Stay turned to Facebook to see my favorites once I finish all the images.

Want to see how far she’s come?  Here are a few of the NICU images I took:

Giving Back | Minneapolis NICU Photographer

Many of my friends and clients are aware that I am a participating photographer with The Tiny Footprints Project.  It’s definitely a program that is dear to me.  Both my babies were born early and though they didn’t end up in the NICU I was scared and worried about their health.  There is so much that these families and babies are fighting for and sometimes the first thing to come to your mind is not taking pictures, especially if you aren’t a photographer.  Photographing in the NICU has a ton of challenges for photographers let alone if you aren’t one!  The Tiny Footprints Project offers FREE photo sessions for families with babies living in the NICU.  The program is national so if you know someone anywhere with a baby in the NICU send them to The Tiny Footprints website:  www.thetinyfootprintsproject.org.  These are images that will be cherished forever.

Gentle Giant in the NICU | Masonic Children’s Hospital NICU Photographer, Minneapolis Minnesota

This little big guy was born with a complex Congenital Heart Defect that was diagnosed at 20 weeks gestation.  Scheduled for at least 3 surgeries in his first few months of life he has shown his family that even the best laid plans can change at a moments notice.  Weighing more than 9 pounds he stands out against the majority of his peers in the NICU but his battle is just as big and it was my honor to capture this family’s sweet little hero’s brave story.
